Spokesmen for the Steuben Society yesterday announced that members of the committee in charge of arrangements for the German Day celebration at Madison Square Garden on December 6 had visited – President Roosevelt on Tuesday for the purpose of inviting him to attend the fete.

The President has the invitation under consideration.

The committee visiting Washington was composed of Gustav Wieboldt, chairman of the New York State Council; Theodore H. Hoffmann, chairman of the National Council of the Steuben Society, and Henry P. Velte. They were introduced to the President by Senator Robert F. Wagner.

New York offices of the Steuben Society yesterday refused to disclose whether or not plans for the speakership of the celebration had been completed. It is believed, however, that the committee in Washington had discussed the advisability of inviting Ambassador Hans Luther to address the celebration.
