More than 1,000 representatives of Jewish organizations throughout New England at an emergency conference held in the Hotel Statler here Sunday, pledged cooperation with the Central Bureau for the Settlement of German Jews and will seek to raise $150,000 for establishing Palestine as a haven for the refugees. The convention will also launch an attempt to petition the United States to lower its immigration barriers to accommodate Jews fleeing from the Reich.
Judge Jacob J. Kaplan, chairman of the executive committee for the Boston campaign, presided. Other speakers were Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik, Chaim Greenberg, formerly of Palestine; Benjamin Shoolman, representing B’nai B’rith; Dr. Bessie Sharenson, representing the New England Senior Hadassah; Elihu D. Stone, of the New England Zionist Region; Samuel Kalesky and Rabbis Harry Levi and H. H. Rubenovitz. Mrs. Ely Fiebelman, president of the League of Women’s Organizations, pledged support.
