A painting of Rio harbor showing a Negro in the foreground served as an excuse for a mob attack upon the place of business of a Jewish trader in gold here today.

The student leaders of teh mob asserted that the painting ,which is the work of a Brazilian artist,was an insult to the Brazilian nation.Zitrin,the Jewish owner of the store,which is on the principal street of Rio, displayed the painting in his show-window.

police saved Zitrin from the hands of the mob by arresting him.

In commenting on the incident,the Jornal do Brasil attacked Zitring for having considered himself a Brazilian and demanded the cessation of Jewish and Japanese immigration.
