Who painted a large, red swastika on the City Hall?

Municipal officials are asking each other what significance might be attached to the painting, which has been discovered on the Lexington street side of the building.

Splashes of paint on the pavement indicated the job was done in a hurry, but the emblem was outlined clearly in strokes three or four inches wide. A check-up by the watchman indicated that the painting was done early in the morning.

Paul Zimmerman, superintendent of municipal buildings, ordered the sign washed off, but several hours’ scrubbing failed to remove the emblem entirely.
