Pledging himself to the task of strengthening the Young People’s League movement throughout the country, Bernard S. Karmazt of Philadelphia, newly-elected president of the Young People’s League of the United Synagogue of America, urged a strenghening of the bond between American-Jewish youth and the synagogue in a statement issued from the headquarters of the United Synagogue of America, yesterday. At the same time, Mr. Karmatz called for union of religious youth of all denominations and faiths to combat racial and religious bigotry.
“The future of Judaism is dependent primarily upon the synagogue, and the future of the synagogue is in the hands of the Jewish youth,” he declared. “Through the syngogue the American-Jewish youth must prepare itself to take an active part in all communal affairs, both civic and Jewish.”
Speaking of the relationship between Jewish and non-Jewish youth groups, Mr. Karmatz siad that “The Young People’s League of the United Synagogue of America stands ready at all times to co-operate with its fellow Protestant and Catholic youth in all tasks aiming at the regeneration of the social, economic and cultural life of the larger American this country.”
