Following a day of unusual activity on behalf of the National Blue Men of America, a militant anti-Nazi outfit, Benjamin Lazare, national commander of the organization, was suddenly taken ill late Thursday night and was still in bed at his home in Brownsville yesterday.
Thursday witnessed Lazare’s visits to Mayor LaGuardia, Aldermanic President Deutsche and Police Commissioner O’Ryan. In the evening, under a heavy downpour, he led his men in a parade in Brooklyn, which culminated in the burning of a quantity of German-made merchandise.
It was shortly after the evening activities drew to a close that Lazare complained of feeling sick and was rushed to his home. No information as to the nature of his ailment was forthcoming.
In the meantime, former Magistrate Joseph Goldstein was drawing up the necessary papers to obtain an order on Saturday from the Supreme Court to serve on various city officials to make them show cause why the Nazi meeting scheduled for May 17 in Madison Square Garden is not being prevented, as sought by Lazare and the Blue Men during their delegation’s calls Thursday.
