Talmud Held by Silver Shirts As ‘evidence of a Plot by the Jews’

By virtue of the gracious consent of leaders of the local McFadden Post of the Silver Legion, a reporter for the Jewish Daily Bulletin was permitted to remain throughout the regular meeting of the group at the Turnhalle last Wednesday. Some business was held over until the next meeting because of the presence of the spy, but sufficient evidence was accumulated to indicate without possibility of refutation the dastardly Silver Shirt plot against the present order of affairs.

In all, precisely forty-one members were present, six of them women. By actual count at least fourteen of the men wore DAWA pins, and in all likelihood there were more of these buttons on the lapels of those who could not be seen from the reporter’s seat. Before the meeting the conversation of virtually all was carried out in German, but the proceedings were in English, and of all who spoke, only four did so without a German accent.

One burly gentleman with a heavy German accept “surprised” the audience with a gift, an old and heavy volume of the Hebraic Talmud. He announced that hence forth it was to be the property of the Silver Legion. He explained that it was given him by a rabbi in Russia, who entertained a deep sense of gratitude for his having taught him English. In presenting the volume, which must have been quite precious in an intrinsic way to the rabbi, the gentleman explained that this gift could be converted into a true expose of the Jewish scheme to overthrow civilization. “This book and the protocols,” added the master of ceremonies, and throughout the audience heads bobbed in agreement.

ITS MERCENARY VALUE

One stockily built gentleman arose to question the value of the volume. He stated that the Talmud was composed of fourteen volumes, the fourteenth, containing all the insidious secrets of scheming international Jewry, never having found its way to Gentile hands. The donor gained his feet in righteous wrath to explain that his Talmud was the real goods-a kosher Talmud-the real McCoy-but the general opinion of the audience, obviously learned in all the secrets of Jewry, agreed that the Russian rabbi was not so stupid as to divulge the conspiracies of his race so naively. For some minutes the controversy went on in the restrained, wholesome Silver Shirt manner. The donor explained that the rabbi had taught him Hebrew, but he indignantly denied ever having read a word of the Talmud in question.

The stockily built gentleman offered to translate the book and report on its authenticity for a half hour at the next meeting, but when the master of ceremonies asked if he could translate Hebrew, his face grew very red indeed, and he denied having such shameful knowledge. He sat down in some embarrassment.

ASKS FOR GUARD

An elderly gentleman, unfortunately so deaf as to find it necessary to use earphones, suggested that a guard of honor be appointed to guard the volume, “for if these Jews ever learned that we have such a book in our possession they would use all sorts of violence to recover it.” This met with some agreement, but the master of ceremonies, George L. Pafort (the meeting was listed downstairs as “Mr. Pafford’s lecture”), knew that the jig was up. He knew a reporter was in the house prepared to divulge this information to international Jewry itself. So he ended the controversy in a dignified manner, thanking the giver and remarking that it would be valuable in bringing the Jews to justice when the day of reckoning comes.

MISS ORGELMAN TALKS

Miss Mabel Orgelman, vivacious crusader for more humane movements than one could enumerate in this short space and chairman of the McFadden Post’s Civic Committee, delivered a brief but sparkling talk on the necessity of Silver Shirts maintaining their dignity in gaining Pelley’s objective, the Christ Democracy of America. In some respects her remarks were not amiss, for a number of the attendants would certainly have been more in their element ######### (and the reporter feels certain that if the opportunity had presented itself, they would have abandoned the Silver Shirt meeting for) a roistering session with the League of Friends of New Germany. This applied to about half the audience. The other half was composed of middle-aged persons of the type one finds at church suppers and civic campaigns for better lawns.

None of the attendants was in uniform and they wore no more distinctive markings than the badges of the DAWA and Friends of New Germany. The room, about half filled, was decorated with a large American flag, an equally large white flag with a blood-red L, and a portrait of the grimvisaged Pelley between the two and directly behind the speakers’ platform.

Mr. Pafort’s remarks in slightly varied terminology can be obtained from any issue of the Silver Legion organ, Liberation (now in the hands of the receivers) or the Silver Ranger, back numbers of which were peddled to members at the rate of five for a dime. The collection at the end of the meeting was heartily supported.
