An apparent attempt to kidnap James A. Wechsler, editor of the Columbia Spectator, was reported yesterday by Wechsler to university authorities. No other reason for the attempt can be hazarded, friends of Wechsler say, other than that the left wing activities of the Spectator earlier in the year may have been the cause. It is recalled that swastikas were strewn around the newspaper office then because of its anti-Fascist policy.

In his story of the attempted kidnapping, Wechsler said he fled just before eight masked students invaded his room. He said he understood they carried chloroform.
