The Jewish community of Berlin yesterday presented a safer torah (holy scroll) to the Maranos of Braganza, who had asked for one.

The presentation was made in a symbolic ceremony in the synagogue at Heidereuter Gasse, where representatives of the community and the Reichvertretung were present. Dr. Jacob Freimann, rabbi, declared during the service that “God hears those who when they are themselves in need of help give help to others.”

The symbolic gift of the Berlin community to the Portuguese Jews was the outcome of a recent visit to Braganza by Dr. Alfred Klee, German Zionist leader, to whom the Maranos expressed their desire for a sefer torah.
