The Jewish Philanthropic League is sponsoring one of the best amateur boxing shows that has been booked in a long while.

Inter-city championship bouts will be on the card of the charity show. Several of the simon pure champs who will appear on the all-star program are Homer Pope, Buster Hardy, and Willie Lewis.

A special bout will bring together Johnny Vitale, former New York state champion, and Jimmy Lambert, of the Salem Crescent A.C. This is their third meeting, each holding a decision over the other.

THE CANZONERI-KLICK SCRAP AT EBBETS FIELD

Tony Canzoneri, former lightweight champion of the world meets Frankie Klick, of California, in a fifteen round battle. The winner will meet Barney Ross for the world’s lightweight championship.

Klick has fought Canzoneri and Ross. He says that he is afraid of Tony’s punches. Also, Frankie claims, Canzoneri is a much harder hitter and a cleverer boxer than Ross. The reason for this extravagant statement on the part of Klick is the fact that Frankie held Ross to a draw decision in a non-title bout some months ago in California.

However, as we said some time ago, Ross had nothing to lose in this Klick battle, and coasted through the first six rounds with the greatest of ease. But the fight was all to Klick. It was at this stage of the fight that Barney Ross showed his championship colors, came from behind and handed Klick a terrific pasting, earning a draw and a nice stab of do, re, mi.

We’ve seen Canzoneri fight Ross and we’ve only heard Frankie talk about himself, so as we go to press we place a five spot on Tony and a rousing cheer for the Californian boxer.
