It was reported today that the Reich Ministry of Finance has issued a warrant for the “temporary” arrest of Otto Klemperer, Jewish former musical director-general of the State Opera who is now conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and a guest conductor of the New York Philharmonic Society.

The charge against Klemperer is tax evasion. Announcement of the warrant was made in the ministry’s official gazette, which warned Germans not to repay private debts due the musician. His property will be confiscated. Klemperer was dismissed from the State Opera because of his race.

Klemperer left Los Angeles last April, according to the Bulletin’s San Francisco correspondent, and is believed to be somewhere in Europe at the present time.
