An emergency committee to aid Jewish sufferers in the disastrous Polish floods was formed here tonight by leaders of London Jewry. The committee is composed of Simon Marks, Lord Melchett, Gustave Tuck, Lady Prinzezra, Henry van den Bergh, Mrs. Hermann Irwell and Sir Meyer Spielmann, the treasurer.
The committee was created at a dinner this evening in honor of the retiring Polish Ambassador, Konstanty Skirmunt, given by the Polish Jewish Federation.
Among the speakers at the affair were Neville Laski, Professor Selig Brodetsky and Lord Melchett. The Polish diplomat, replying to the greetings of the speakers, pointed out that “Poland has never expelled the Jews, and has never shut her doors against the persecuted and expelled from other countries.
“You had with us happy days and dark days,” he said. “I hope opportunities for Polish Jews will be greater”
