Franz von Papen, non-Nazi member of the cabinet of Adolf Hitler, was accepted today by the Austrian government as special German Minister to this country, ending a long period of uncertainty during which it was believed his appointment might be rejected.

Acceptance of the former Vice Chancellor indicates Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg and his cabinet decided to assume that Hitler’s ostensible gesture of friendship in naming von Papen was made in good faith.
