Joint Member Drive Started by Jews of L. I.

A joint membership drive, in which all the reform Jewish organizations in the Long Island area will participate, will begin. August 15 and continue until October 1.

According to the plans outlined by Rabbi Jacob B. Pollak, regional rabbi of the North East Religious Union, there will be no proselytizing. Prospects approached who state their preference for orthodox or conservative congregations will be directed to synagogues representing their beliefs. A feature of the drive will be a check-up on synagogue members who have moved from one Long Island community to another and of members of New York and Brooklyn synagogues who have moved to Long Island.

The congregations participating in the drive are: Temple Israel of Jamaica, Sidney A. Reiss, president; Aaron L. Weinstein, rabbi. Temple Israel of Lawrence, J. Nathan Helfat, president; William B. Schwartz. Flushing Free Synagogue, Philip Goldfarb, president. Max Meyer, rabbi. Temple Emanuel of Lynbrook, Max Winkler, president, and Temple Beth El of Great Neck, Daniel Lipsky, president; Jacob Rudin, rabbi.

The following are the chairman of the membership committees: Joseph H. Minden, Temple Israel of Lawrence; Dr. A. J. Kates, Temple Beth El of Great Neck; Dr. Louis Sapirstein, Temple Israel of Jamaica; Harry Kauffman, Free Synagogue of Flushing, and Jack Erlang, Temple Emanuel of Lynbrook.
