Goldman was appointed Commissioner of Plant and Structures by Mayor Walker in 1925, a post in which he controlled approximately one billion dollars worth of city property. He held office until late last year when he was ousted by Mayor John P. O’Brien during the latter’s last minute reprisal campaign against Tammany Democrats who had deserted the party to join the McKee campaign.
During his tenure of office, Goldman made an enviable reputation for executive ability and devotion to duty. The ambitious tri-borough bridge project was started under his direction.
