Substantial gifts from Samuel S. Fels, Philadelphia philanthropist, are financing efforts to perfect an anti-pneumonia serum.

Dr. John A. Kolmer, Temple University pathologist, made this revelation yesterday as he announced that his staff of research workers is beginning a three-months’ test of a new serum.

The donation by Fels, he said, is ample to guarantee completion of the experiments, although the exact amount remains a secret.

Dr. Kolmer last week announced the discovery of an infantile paralysis vaccine. He is now making plans for the inoculation of twenty children with the serum to prove its immunization powers.

Although refusing to reveal the extent of his laboratory work with the pneumonia vaccine, Dr. Kolmer indicated that it had been used successfully upon monkeys, dogs and rabbits.
