The sudden death yesterday of Edward J. Ahearn, Democratic leader of the Fourth District and foe of John F. Curry, ousted Tammany leader, has left the district without a recognized leader and it is held certain that a contest over the leadership will develop.

Bert Stand, Democratic political leader, who was recently elected secretary of Tammany Hall, is held to be the most likely choice for the leadership if he would give up his important post at the Hall. Stand was an intimate associate of Ahearn and is regarded as one of the most influential men in the district.
