Rabbi Joseph S. Kornfeld, of the Collingwood Avenue Temple, former United States Minister to Persia, has resigned from his position and will leave for New York October 1.

Rabbi Kornfeld came here in 1924 following his diplomatic service at Teheran. Previously he had been a rabbi in Columbus.

In addition to his rabbinical duties at the Collingwood Avenue Temple, Dr. Kornfeld has taken part in various social and philanthropic movements here. He has been active in charitable and religious drives.

Commenting upon his resignation, the Toledo Blade said:

“During the decade of his residence in Toledo, Rabbi Joseph S. Kornfeld has served not only Collingwood Temple, but the whole city.

“A religious leader who believed and practiced that which he preached, he has been a force for good and his activities in civic and educational work have enriched and mellowed the community, for he was a profound student, an experienced diplomat, an extensive traveler, a keen observer of economic, political and social trends and a forceful speaker.

“It will be difficult to fill Dr. Kornfeld’s place in Toledo when he departs soon for a wider field of activity and usefulness in New York City.”
