The strength of the Nazi dictatorship over the Protestant churches in Germany was demonstrated here yesterday when the Nazi-dominated church council headed by Reichsbishop Ludwig Mueller decided that all pastors having Jewish wives must be arbitrarily retired.
The council also ruled that the “Aryan paragraph” must be fully restored where church officials and employees are concerned. The working of the “Aryan paragraph was temporarily suspended last fall when a storm of opposition arose within the church against ousting hundreds of pastors who are of Jewish descent.
Lay and church officials of all ranks will now come under the “Aryan paragraph,” the council decided.
