Julius and Theodore Baumgarten, brothers, two of the most prominent lawyers in Vienna, committed suicide today by inhaling gas. The two men, formerly well-to-do advocates, had become impoverished by the boycott of Vienna Jewish attorneys and took their lives in desperation.

Austrian Jewish professionals have been dismissed in large numbers in recent months and the Christian Socialist party, the leading group in the coalition government, has openly called for the elimination of the Jews from the professions and from public life.
