The owner and the captain of the Greek vessel, Ionian, were sentenced to jail terms and payment of fines and three Jews were fined following their conviction by Magistrate Bodilly in Jaffa court of having assisted seventeen persons to enter the country illegally near Tel Aviv.

The owner of the vessel was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment and a fine of £100 ($500); the captain to three months imprisonment and a £50 ($250) fine, and the three Jews to fines of £50 each.

The police alleged during the trial that the vessel had brought in many other illegal immigrants but only seventeen were arrested. They will be deported.
