An appeal that steps be taken during the Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur services to raise additional funds for the United Jewish Appeal has been issued by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, it was announced.

“During these awesome days, when the Jew gives accounting to the Judges on High for his deeds during the past year and pleads for forgiveness for his sins and makes supplication that he may be granted a happy year—just during these days should he account also for what he has done for his brethren and especially for the Jews of Germany,” the appeal said.

“The duty therefore devolves upon all synagogues that during these Holy Days pleas shall be made from their pulpits for the rescue of the Jews of Germany. We call upon all our people to do their utmost in aid of the great work of the United Jewish Appeal. It is only as one does this that he may hope that he will be granted a happy New Year.”
