Many Jewish shopkeepers have applied to authorities for exemption from the compulsory Sunday closing law next week, since remaining closed on Sunday would mean a four-day shut-down period.
The stores will be closed on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, and Sunday, as required by law. The Jewish New Year falls on Monday and Tuesday, when Jewish stores also will be closed.
It is not believed exemption will be granted.
