Between May 1 and August 31 the Jewish community here lost 591 members, the report of the statistical bureau of the community shows.

The diminution is accounted for by the excess of deaths over births, which amounted to 466, and the departure of 286 persons from the faith as compared with 161 who entered or returned to the fold.

Births in the four months numbered 286—153 boys, 133 girls. Deaths reached 752.

At the first plenary session of the executive committee of the Vienna Jewish community after New Year it was brought out that the renting of seats in the synagogues and private prayer-halls had fallen off sharply. Requests for free seats and seats at reduced rates showed a large increase, owing to the general impoverishment of the Jewish population.

Taxes and other income of the community also fell, giving a clear picture of the unfavorable economic conditions of the Jews here.
