A typographical error in the second article of this series in the Monday issue, materially altered the author’s intended meaning.

The error made it appear that the writer was advocating dispensing entirely with the rabbinate. His words were directed solely at the un-Jewish rabbi type.

The sentences referred to should have read:

“We can easily dispense with our modern rabbi-imitation of an alien priesthood. Only if our rabbis leave lip-smacking behind and become teachers, forceful and Jewish – minded, can they have value to our Jewish organism.”
