The British Ambassador here has intervened with the Austrian government, protesting the ban on the British-produced film, “Jud Suess,” it was reported in British circles here today. The British representative acted on complaints submitted by Gaumont-British, the concern which produced the film. The producers’ complaint was based on the fact that the Austrian censorship board passed the film and then suddenly withdrew permission after an anti-Semitic campaign was begun by the Christian Socialist party press.

The Reichspost, official government organ, and the semi-official government papers threatened anti-Semitic disturbances if the film was shown in Vienna. The film is filled “with pro-Jewish propaganda and blasphemy,” the Reichspost declared.

“Jud Suess” is based on Lion Feuchtwanger’s novel of the same name.
