Mrs. Myron A. Borg Sr. heads the committee of the recital to be given at Carnegie Hall on November 24 by Ruggiero Ricci, the fourteen-year-old violinist, for the benefit of the education department of the New York Women’s Trade Union League of which Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt is the honorary chairman.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A. Lewisohn of 881 Fifth avenue gave on November 12 a dinner in honor of Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt who later opened the international exhibition of children’s paintings which is sponsored by Mrs. Lewisohn.
Mrs. Arthur Lehman is giving an afternoon reception on November 19 at her home, 45 East Seventieth street, for workers in the drive of the women’s division of Federation. Mlle. Lucienne Boyer, the French stage star, will be the principal guest, and Dr. Sigismund S. Goldwater, Commissioner of Hospitals, will speak.
Colonel and Mrs. Robert Guggenheim had a table at the annual Horse Show Ball of the National Horse Show Association which was held at the Waldorf Astoria on November 12. Guests of Colonel and Mrs. Guggenheim included the Persian Minister and Madame Djalal, Mrs. Frederic Van Lennep and Captain D. J. Corey.
The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. David Herman of 395 Oliver place, Bronx, was celebrated at a reception at the Pythian Temple, New York, last Sunday evening. Mr. Herman came to the United States from Hungary at the age of eight. Mrs. Herman is American-born. Both are active members of the Hungarian Society of New York of which Mrs. Herman’s father, Jacob Newman, was the founder.
Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Kantrowitz of 215 West Eighty-sixth street gave a dinner on Friday at the Metropolis Club to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Mrs. Kantrowitz is the former Leontine Huebsch, daughter of the late Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Adolph Huebsch. The marriage ceremony was performed by her father at the Central Synagogue of New York where he was rabbi. The Rev. Dr. Jonah B. Wise, present rabbi at the synagogue, was among the guests at the dinner.
The engagement of Miss Marjorie Loewenthal, daughter of Mrs. Walter Loewenthal and the late Mr. Loewenthal, to Edward M. Bratter of New York, son of Mrs. David Bratter and the late David Bratter, has been announced.
Miss Loewenthal attended the Chatelard School in Montreux, Switzerland, and the Finch School in New York.
Mr. Bratter is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School. He was formerly with the law firm of Guggenheimer, Untermyer and Marshall, and is now a member of Marshall, Bratter and Seligson of this city. He is a member of the Columbia University Club and the City Athletic Club.
