Argentina needs 100,000 immigrants a year, a report released here by the economic committee of the Industrial Union of Argentina declares. The committee’s purpose in preparing the report was to indicate ways and means for favorable immigration.
The country would benefit greatly by an annual increase of 100,000 persons established with the aid of colonization facilities, bank credits, transportation and the like, the report says.
The 500,000 persons who would come into the country in the space of five years would consume 75,000 tons of wheat every year; 67,000 tons of meat; 75,000 barrels of wine; about 7,000,000 liters of beer; a million kilograms of tobacco; 15,000 tons of sugar; 3,000,000 liters of edible oils; 3,000,000 kilograms of rice; a million kilograms of butter, and 750,000 kilograms of cheese, the report estimates. It is also estimated that the natural increase of these 500,000 immigrants would give the country two million Argentinians.
