Broker Defends Snow Rental

This is the second of a series exposing several new merchants engaged in the lucrative racket of fomenting anti-Semitism.

II.

“Jew accounts are just as welcome here as any others.”

This was said by Wm. Mitchell, one of the partners of Reynolds, Fish & Co., speaking in the brokerage firm’s downtown office at 120 Broadway.

John B. Snow, a former statistician for the concern who now devotes his time to peddling the spurious Protocols of the Elders of Zion and other anti-Semitic propaganda, occupies part of its uptown offices at 18 E. Forty-eighth street.

DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY

Mitchell, discussing the relationship between Reynolds, Fish and its ex-employe, suavely waived all responsibility for any activities in which Snow is now engaged.

“Snow told me he was resigning from our firm to do some research,” the broker said. “When he remarked that he intended to rent an office somewhere, we suggested that he take part of our E. Forty-eighth street suite, because we had more room than we knew what to do with there.”

“Do you know what he’s really using the office for?” a Jewish Daily Bulletin reporter asked.

WOULD RENT TO ANYONE

“That’s none of our business,” Mitchell replied. “If you or anyone else were to ask us to rent you space, we’d do it, provided our landlord was agreeable.”

“That’s not a true statement of facts,” the reporter said. “I’m sure you’d want to know something about my purposes before you’d turn over an office to me.”

“Whatever you planned to do would be all right with us, provided it wasn’t illegal,” Mitchell answered. “Listen,” he said, “you’re trying to get me to admit Reynolds, Fish is doing some damned fool thing here. We’re not. Snow is paying us rent, and we have no other connection with him, except that we’ve known him for many years and naturally feel friendly toward him.”

“If you have any Jewish accounts, don’t you think they might resent your friendliness toward Snow?”

WELCOMES JEWISH ACCOUNTS

“Jew accounts are just as welcome here as any others. If a Jew customer doesn’t like something we do, he can… well, he can go somewhere else.”

Mitchell, who originally came from St. Paul, Minn., had some “close Jew friends out there,” he said. Why, he had even played golf with them and taken drinks over the bar in their company!

“So far as I personally am concerned,” he said, “I don’t believe there are any Jews to amount to anything outside New York. When you talk about a Jew peril, you’re talking about New York. They even let ’em into clubs out where I come from.”

He himself has never read the “Protocols,” he said.

MONEY CAME FROM JEWS

This particular edition of the “Protocols” which Snow is peddling, incidentally, is interesting because much of the money used to float it came from prominent Jews and Jewish firms, who ignorantly contributed to the coffers of Harry A. Jung of Chicago in the misguided belief that they were financing an anti – Communist cause.

The Patriotic Publishing Co. of P. O. Box 526, Chicago, is listed as the publisher of the volume.

Inquiry by the Bulletin’s Chicago correspondent led to the disclosure that the company is a subsidiary of the Jung organization, the American Vigilant Intelligence Federation.

Its post office box is in the name of a Russian, one of Jung’s lieutenants, who works under the alias “Peter A. Armstrong” and who publishes Jung’s official organ, the Gentile Front.

When Jung testified before the Congressional committee to investigate un-American activities, his records showed payments and other transactions with the Patriotic Publishing Co. which indicated a close tie-up.

ADMIRES OWN WORK

Snow seems convinced that he is doing a good work in circulating this and other equally subversive literature.

“People interested in the cause will find me,” he says. “The Enemy—he always refers to Jewry as The Enemy, capital T, capital E—has found me. Friends are discovering me, too, and they’re telling each other where these books can be obtained.”

In a form letter which he sends out in response to orders for one of his condensed “courses” in anti-Communism, he says:

“All of the above literature can be purchased direct from the publisher. However, I always have on hand extra copies of the above.”

He feels that when the time arrives for the forces of discrimination and ignorance to be rallied under a single banner, he will be in a key position to step into a niche as the Dr. Goebbels of an organized American version of Nazism.

Meanwhile he is meeting and becoming friendly with everyone who is attempting to propagate a movement on the basis of dislike of Jews.
