An important step to guarantee freedom of Jewish trade in Danzig, which is now dominated by Nazis, was taken when a new treaty was signed between Poland and the Senate of the Free City of Danzig. The treaty contains a special provision protecting Jewish trade interests in the Danzig territory.
The Jews of Danzig were somewhat relieved today when the news of the new treaty was made public. Much hope is, however, not being laid on this treaty in view of the fact that the Jewish population of Danzig has been greatly deluded by similar treaties in the past.
The Senate of Danzig, according to the treaty, is obliged to see to it that no limitations are placed against the Jews in Danzig so far as commercial transactions are concerned.
The new treaty is a result of negotiations lasting several weeks. Nazi members of the Danzig Senate have agreed to the special provision guaranteeing freedom for Jews in commerce, in view of the fact that even in Nazi Germany the Jews are officially not molested in commerce. It was also taken
