Disaster loomed for hundreds of Jews who have come to Holland from Poland, following a government edict issued yesterday ordering deportation of all East Europeans who have settled in this country since January, 1932.
Under this provision ninety-five per cent. of the Jews who have come here seeking sanctuary from Poland face expulsion. The law was passed despite admission by government officials that the emigrants’ behavior has been of a high quality and open to no complaint.
Consternation was caused among those affected by the decree. They were bewildered over what the future holds for them. No other country will accept them and they will not return to Poland, where Jews are being systematically frozen out of the economic picture and where they could expect little other than slow starvation.
