Joseph Kestenberg, popular young Jewish actor of the Young Theatre company, committed suicide by hanging himself in the wardrobe of the group’s theatre.

Dire financial straits following the investment of his money in a theatre venture were given as the cause of Kestenberg’s decision to kill himself.
