Jews Overcrowding Medicine, Fishbein States; Admits Clausus

Dr. Morris Fishbein, eminent national authority on medical questions, declared in an interview here that a numerus clausus exists in the medical schools in the United States.

Dr. Fishbein stated that every medical school in the country today practices a certain amount of discrimination in the selection of its students, but he added that it is fortunate that in this country the numerus clausus is enforced intelligently, on the basis of highest scholarship and with the intention of giving representation to every group and every section of the land.

The Jewish students in the medical colleges number seventeen to eighteen per cent of the total, in spite of the fact that the Jews are only three per cent of the total population of the country, Dr. Fishbein pointed out.
