Thousands of Jews, suffering from the intense cold, including women and children, besieged the offices of the Jewish community in Warsaw today, asking for coal.
The number of impoverished Jews depending upon free coal from the community is growing every day. Among the applicants of free coal are hundreds of Jews who formerly contributed large sums for the community.
The Jewish community in Warsaw is not in any position to satisfy all the applicants in view of its shortage of funds. Long-sessioned conferences are being held daily for the purpose of finding ways and means to save poverty-stricken Jewish families from hunger and cold.
