What are the facts? The population of this country is about 125,000,000. There are from four and one-half to five million Jews in the United States. The entire registration of the Communist party is but 26,000 members.
The population of New York City is about 7,000,000. Almost 2,000,000 of them are Jews. The entire Communist party in New York has 8,000 registered members.
The Jewish population of Philadelphia is 250,000. The entire enrolled Communist party of Philadelphia is 1,500.
We do not know how many of the 8,000 Communists of New York, of the 1,500 of Philadelphia, are Jews. But the total Communist registration in and of itself shows that whether the Jews of New York and Philadelphia are Democrats or Republicans, one thing is certain, and that is that they are not Communists.
ENTIRE LEADERSHIP IS NON-JEWISH
As to the leadership of the Communist party, its head is William A. Foster, a native-born American. Its other chief leaders are Earl Browder, Clarence Hathaway, Ella Reeve Bloor, James Ford, Robert Minor, native-born non-Jews, Max Bedacht, a German naturalized citizen, not a Jew. Twenty-six active candidates for various offices recently endorsed by Communists were elected, chiefly in the West. Of these twenty-six, not even one was a Jew.
I could pile up such statistics but it is not necessary. “One of the most important tasks of the cultural revolution affecting the wide masses,” the Communist platform declares, “is the task of systematically and unswervingly combatting religion —the proletarian state carries on anti-religious propaganda with all the means at its command.”
Such doctrines Judaism, Jewish history, tradition and law of course oppose root and branch. It is indeed a bitter irony that we who have suffered tortures throughout 2,000 years in order to defend religion, to keep alive the Torch to keep lighted the candle of our faith, should be picked out as the men and women who adopt a political credo which would destroy that religion which we would at all costs preserve.
COMMUNISM NOT A JEWISH PRODUCT
If there is anything firmly embedded in our very blood and bone it is that the law of the land is the law of the Jew. Dina d’Malchuta Dina. The law of the land is the law of the Jew.
Freedom of religious worship is a part of the foundation law of this land. Religious freedom is guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.
Communism, therefore, in preaching the destruction of that religion, is not, cannot be and never will become a Jewish product.
To us Jews these are self-evident truths. That does not today suffice. It is for us to make these truths equally self-evident to the world at large.
