Yiddish plays are being performed in a theatre here this week, the first time in any public theatre in Italy.

Jewish and non-Jewish audiences which came to the opening performance last night were somewhat disappointed. They expected to see Jewish theatrical art in the style which the Hebrew troupe of Habima, during its tour in Italy, had accustomed them. They were disillusioned by the poverty of the repertoire and the acting.

The theatre is giving performances under the directorship of Jacob Adler and Lily Meseri, who say that they came from Russia.
