The new three-cents-a-day plan for hospital care sponsored by the United Hospital Fund is being studied by a special committee appointed by Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, which maintains two hospitals and a network of public health institutions in Palestine.
Details of the plan have been sent to the director of the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem for his comments, it was announced here.
“The fact that fifty-two hospitals have accepted membership in the plan stimulates Hadassah to investigate its possibilities for application in Palestine,” said Mrs. Edward Jacobs, national president of Hadassah. “Just how such a plan can be adapted to Palestine is a question that will take much study, the social conditions there being vastly different from those here. The Hadassah hospitals give labor immigrants free service for the first six months of their residence in the country, while unemployed immigrants receive this service for a full year. However, workers in the country for a longer period and the large class of inhabitants of moderate means would benefit, it would seem to me, from some such plan as operated by the Associated Hospital Service here, if found to be feasible for Palestine.”
