A huge new harbor will be built in Palestine in addition to the one at Haifa, according to a report in today’s press. The new harbor will be constructed along the coastline of Jaffa and Tel Aviv.

The Palestine government, according to the report, is now preparing definite plans for the construction of the harbor, which will convert Palestine into one of the most highly developed commercial centers in the Near East.

No date has as yet been announced for starting the work. The engineers who are preparing the plans, however, are being kept busy by the Palestine government in order that it may submit these plans as soon as possible to the Colonial Office in London.

With the new harbor completed, Palestine will be in the best position to compete with Egypt as a commercial center between Europe and the Orient. A harbor along the coast of Tel Aviv has long been the goal of Palestine industrialists, as the loading and unloading of cargo is done much more speedily when steamers dock in Jaffa than in Haifa, whence the cargo must later be transported by train or truck to Tel Aviv or Jersualem.
