To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

We are delighted to be able to answer Mr. Smolar’s questions on our steamer Tel Aviv:

1. The Tel Aviv is definitely not part of the German Commercial Fleet.

2. The revenue derived from the passage or freight money is deposited in Palestine banks, therefore same is not subject to the existing exchange rates of Germany.

3. The Tel Aviv does not fly the Swastika.

4. To convince you that no money from this vessel goes into Germany, neither ourselves nor our German offices are permitted to accept Reich marks for transportation on this vessel, the only exchange that the Palestine Shipping Company accept is Palestine pounds or foreign currency off### than German.

5. I might tell you that Mr. Arnold Bernstein is a director of the Palestine Shipping Co., which is incorporated in Palestine. Dr. Henry Bromberg, Mr. Bernard Hirscovich and I believe that there are other members of the Zionist movement, who are either officials in this company or directors.

The S. S. Tel Aviv was at one time the German steamer Hohenstein, owned by the Arnold Bernstein Line, prior to that time she was the British steamer Polynesia.

I believe that you will find that some of our competitors will leave no stone unturned to try to divert business and passengers and attract attention to their own service regardless of how true their statements may be.
