The seventieth birthday of Dr. Chaim Zhitlovsky, author and philosopher, was celebrated in an impressive manner on Saturday evening in the New York Coliseum in the presence of about 6,000 persons.

The celebration was arranged by a special jubilee committee consisting of representatives of Jewish local and national organizations, including labor unions, cultural societies and communal institutions.

Dr. Zhitlovsky’s role in the Jewish life of America was outlined by David Pinski, well known Jewish writer. Peter Wiernick, editor-in-chief of The Jewish Morning Journal and Dr. S. Margoshes, editor of The Day, of whose staff Dr. Zhitlovsky is a member spoke for their respective newspapers.

Dr. Zhitlovsky, in an address of appreciation for the tributes paid him, outlined for his hearers the principle tenets of his philosophy.

Other speakers included Joseph Baskin, representing the Workmen’s Circle; Joseph Schlossberg of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union; Dr. A. Mukdoni, representing the Jewish Scientific Institute; M. Feinstone in behalf of the Federation of Jewish Labor Unions, and Louis Siegel, for the Socialist Zionist Organization.

Messages of congratulations were received at the celebration from many European countries. Among those who sent messages were Prof. Albert Einstein, Prof. Sigmund Freud and other scientists of international fame.
