A campaign organization representing all elements of the Jewish community was perfected here on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal at a luncheon addressed by Prof. Norman Bentwich, associate on the League of Nations High Commission for Refugees.
Leaders of the Jewish community who heard the plea made by Prof. Bentwich on behalf of the refugees decided to open the campaign in the interests of the United Jewish Appeal on June 2. The following officers for Elizabeth were elected to head the fund-raising effort: Dr. Emil Stein, honorary chairman: Harry Weltchek, chairman; Samuel Koestler, treasurer; Harry Lebau, secretary.
Simultaneous campaigns are to ### held in adjacent communities, #ith the following co-chairmen: #uis Winetsky and Louis Rakin for Linden, N. J.; Isaac Kawut for Rahway, N. J.; Morris Scotch for Union and F. S. Weiner for Roselle.
MANHATTAN GROUPS LAY CAMPAIGN PLANS
Jewish representatives of congregations, men’s clubs and other organizations met at the Jewish Club. Park Royal Hotel, last night, to organize the Mid-Manhattan division of the Greater New York campaign of the United Jewish Appeal. Rabbi Louis I. Newman of Temple Rodeph Sholem, chairman of the {SPAN}###{/SPAN} Manhattan division, presided. On the speakers list were: Dr. Kurt Rosenfeld, former Minister of Justice in Prussia; Nathan Straus, one of the co-chairmen of the Greater New York campaign; Judge Jonah J. Goldstein, chairman of the Manhattan division; Judge Benjamin E. Greenspan, president of the Council of Organizations of the United Jewish Appeal.
