Bronx Women Hear Speech by Hyman

The overwhelming difficulties facing large sections of European Jewry were described by Joseph C. Hyman, honorary secretary of the United Jewish Appeal, at a meeting of the Bronx Women’s Division at the Concourse Plaza Hotel.

Representatives of various organizations pledged cooperation. The quota for the Jewish women of the city is $200,000.

Mrs. Bernard S. Deutsch, wife of the president of the Board of Aldermen, presided. Mrs. Richard Percy Limburg and Mrs. David E. Goldfarb also spoke.

SCHAAP TELLS OF MANY CHRISTIAN JEWS’ IN REICH

There are more than 2,000,000 “Christian Jews” in Germany in addition to the 500,000 Jews of the Jewish faith there, Michael Schaap, president of Bloomingdale’s declared Thursday in an address before the Cloak and Suit Division of the United Jewish Appeal at the Hotel Pennsylvania.

He said he was at a loss to understand the attitude of indifference on the part of Christians toward the victims of Nazism.

Other speakers included I. Edwin Goldwasser, who with Schaap and Nathan Straus are the co-chairmen of the city-wide campaign; Milton Grossman, Louis Schneinder, I. Grossman and Harry Katz.
