Philip K. Heldman, president of the local German Societies was one of the principal speakers at a picnic and open house of the Home for Jewish Aged of Central New York. The Arion Choral Group of 75 voices, a unit of the German Societies, gave a program of songs, including “Die Lorelei” by Heinrich Heine, German-Jewish poet whose works are now taboo in Germany.
In offering to participate in the celebration of the Jewish Home, the president of the German Societies stated that he wanted to show that the Jews and Germans in Syracuse are fellow-Americans even though they may be of different racial descent.
