Sir Alan Anderson, new London member of the House of Commons, revived an old custom by kissing the Bible when taking his oath of office.

The more ordinary form is that authorized by the Oaths Act of 1909. The member holds the New Testament, or the Old Testament if he is Jewish, in his hand and repeats the prescribed oath.
