Isaac Loeb Goldberg, one of the founders of the Zionist movement and a prominent philanthropist, died here yesterday at the age of 75 after a long illness.

He had been taking the cure a month, coming here from Palestine where he had been living.

Goldberg was born in Szaki, Lithuania, of a poor family. While still a youth he helped organize the Chovivei Zion (Lovers of Zion), an organization that later became one of the most important forerunners of political Zionism.

He played a leading part in the convoking of the first World Zionist Congress in Basle in 1897 and was one of the leasing delegates. During the World War he exposed the secret army orders against the Russian Jews.

Later he founded the Jewish Colonial Trust, an important Zionist financial institution, served as editor of Haolom, official Russian Zionist publication during which period he was jailed several times for statements the paper printed, and held the presidency of the Russian Zionist Organization a term.

Goldberg was known for his large contributions to causes dear to him.
