With the Nazis preparing to introduce all the anti-Jewish legislation into the Saar on March 1, when minority guarantees expire, a report from Jewish sources today gives a total of 3,117 Jews registered as members of religious communities in the Saar as of last June. The figure does not include those without religious affiliations and only a few hundred of the total emigrated since June, most of those able to emigrate having quit the Saar before.
The Nuremberg laws and other anti-Jewish legislation will go into effect March 1, Joseph Buerckel, Nazi commissar for the territory, declared in an address to foreign correspondents. He said that ninety-five per cent of the Jews there have already emigrated.
