American Jews residing in Germany are subject to the Nuremberg laws to the same extent as are German Jews, it was learned today following failure of American Embassy efforts to secure for American Jews exemption to a law forbidding Jews to employ “Aryan” servant girls under 45.
Efforts to obtain such exemption were made in the case of Dr. J. Rosen, a dentist and an American citizen who has lived in Berlin for many years. His clientele is largely American.
Upon proclamation of the Nuremberg laws, Dr. Rosen applied through American diplomatic channels for permission as an American citizen to continue in his employ “Aryan” maids employed prior to the laws.
Despite diplomatic intervention, his application, after having been referred to many different departments, was finally rejected on the grounds that Jews of foreign citizenship are equally subject to the Nuremberg laws.
