The newspaper Landez-zeitung, reported today that the municipality tendered a reception to Helene Mayer, German-Jewish fencing champion who participated in the Olympic games.

The newspaper quotes her as saying that she is returning to American and describes her “joy” at having been permitted to fight for the Fatherland.

“The Fuehrer called to the youth of the world,” the newspaper quotes Miss Mayer, “who responded enthusiastically. The Fuehrer alone made possible the great scope of the Olympics.”

According to the paper, Miss Mayer said she would never forget the welcome to the fencing team given by Chancellor Hitler and would always retain the impression of “his spiritual greatness.”

“I shall always treasure the red-handed bouquet for Olympic winner which Adolf Hitler gave me.”
