More than fifty Jews were wounded in violent anti-Jewish disorders that raged throughout the day yesterday in the town of Wysokie Mazowiecki, between Bialystok and Warsaw, it was reported here today. Six of the wounded are in serious condition at the hospital.
The disorders assumed the proportions of a large scale pogrom, according to eyewitnesses.
Today the Jewish population of the town is in a state of panic, with all Jewish shops shut tight.
The attacks were organized by Endeks, members of the rabidly anti-Semitic Nationalist Democratic Party, and spread to neighboring towns. Endeks were actively engaged in agitation among the hundreds of peasants who crowded the nearby town of Sokoly for market day.
Endeks, taking advantage of the market day in Wysokie Mazoviecki and other towns, raided Jewish shops and homes, brutally beating Jews, destroying merchandise and smashing windows.
At Pultusk, nine Jews were severely wounded by the Endeks who forced them to close all shops.
In Przytyk, scene last March of a pogrom in which two Jews and a Christian were slain, many windows of Jewish houses were smashed. The authorities cancelled all market days for an indefinite period.
Polish Germans attacked Jewish passengers on a train en route to Lodz, wounding several. A number of the assailants were arrested.
Endeks smashed windows of Jewish homes in Wilno, injuring a Jewish passerby, Abraham Kaplan.
