Rabbis of the principal Jewish communities throughout the world joined in a solemn appeal on the eve of the Day of Atonement to civilized opinion everywhere to combat the attacks against Judaism and the Jewish people at the Nuremberg Nazi Congress.

The appeal was made public here by Dr. Joseph H. Hertz, chief rabbi of the British Empire.

“Israel has often been trodden helpless,” it declares, “but it has never been without hope and courage born of faith. Israel’s strong armor against Nazi calumny is its trust in the God of righteousness.”
